Lillie Mae Thompson was a well known minister and entrepreneur from Hartsville, South Carolina. About 1997, she grew ill and moved to Elkridge, Maryland, to live with her daughter, Dianne. As her conditioned worsened, her doctors recommended she find an assisted living. Lillie Mae’s financial resources were limited, thus so were her options for senior care. Dianne finally located small retirement homes willing to accept Lillie Mae, only to be disappointed by poor quality care. Dianne decided to license her own home for Assisted Living and ensure her mother received the finest nursing care possible, in a place that looked, felt, and smelled like home!

With such staff, Lillie Mae lived a quality life for over 12 years at New Life Assisted Living. She lived through five strokes, diabetes, hypertension, and congestive heart failure. Lillie Mae Thompson passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving Eve, 2009. Nevertheless, New Life Assisted Living still thrives today to offer the same quality senior living at affordable prices.
In 2013, the founder’s son, Alvin, was promoted to CEO. He continues to oversee operations as the assisted living has expanded to multiple locations and now offers franchise opportunities. We believe every resident at New Life deserves the same great care that was awarded to Lillie Mae.
Dianne original founder chairman over 40 years of nursing experience as a registered nurse. She graduated from UMUC with Masters Degree in Business Administration and a Masters Degree in Science.
Alvin Franchise Co-Founder has been the CEO of New Life Assisted Living since 2013. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science of Psychology. He has over 20 years of experience in senior care.
Eric Thomas serves as the Chief Operations Officer of New Life Assisted Living Inc. He is a proud University of Maryland alumnus, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Architecture with a minor in Sustainability.
Eric began his career in New York City, gaining invaluable experience at Taconic Builders, AECOM, and Suffolk Construction, later continuing his work with DPR Construction in Virginia as a Project Manager. Throughout his career, he has contributed to some of NYC’s most high-profile and architecturally significant projects, collaborating with world-renowned architects, interior designers, and clients. His portfolio includes work on landmark developments such as The Waldorf Astoria Hotel, 96 + Broadway, The Rothschild Mansion, and The Dommerich Mansion, with project budgets ranging from $200M to $1B. He also brings specialized experience overseeing multimillion-dollar data center projects.
Eric’s passion for creating safe, functional environments is deeply rooted in his personal story. From the age of five, he lived in a family home that was converted into an assisted living facility to care for his grandmother, Lillie Mae Thompson. Growing up in this environment, Eric spent many years serving as a caregiver across multiple New Life Assisted Living locations. This early exposure to compassionate care shaped his commitment to developing high-quality senior living spaces.
Today, Eric plays a pivotal role in New Life’s growth and evolution. He has led initiatives to define the company’s brand identity, expand its marketing presence, and build a strong operational team with the goal of positioning New Life as a recognizable franchise within the healthcare industry nationwide.
As COO, Eric oversees the company’s real estate portfolio, financial operations, and organizational systems. He has helped establish the principles, practices, and procedures that support New Life’s strategic expansion in partnership with the CEO and Founder.
